Carron Crag - Lake District Walk

Wednesday 9th November 2011

I can honestly say that in my pursuit of the Birketts I have never yet walked a hill simply for the sake of it. Some I have enjoyed more than others but all have been treasured for the views and or challenges involved. Today's walk however comes close to being a 'for the sake of ticking it off the list' walk, which is a shame really, as on a good day this would be a delightful short walk with great views from the summit. I know, I've seen them on other peoples websites.

Grizedale Forest

Following the red waymarkers in Grizedale Forest.

Carron Crag

Having lost the red waymarkers we find ourselves looking at Carron Crag from close to Mustard Hill.

Carron Crag's trig

After a longer than planned and frustrating walk around Grizedale Forest we eventually get to the summit of Carron Crag.

Rusland Valley

No views of the distant fells, just a misty view of the Rusland Valley.

Leven Estuary

The distant Leven Estuary is just about visible.

Woodcutter

The woodcutter as we head back. Shortly after passing him we found out
where we went wrong. About 10 minutes from the summit we carried straight on
instead of turning right and added a good 90 minutes to the walk.
